During a Confined Space Entry (CSE) if there are dangerous levels of gas and sample tubing is partially blocked or a small leak occurs diluting the gas, existing portable gas detector pumps are not sensitive enough to detect this and the entrant is put in extreme danger. Often CSE personnel underestimate when the space is safe to enter as it's not easy to determine, putting them at risk.
It is most common for CSE personnel overestimate the time to sample prior to entering so they are completely sure the space is safe which reduces the amount of projects completed per year.
